Ivan Provedel will undergo shoulder surgery in the days ahead, a fresh blow to Lazio’s turbulent season. Sky Sport Italia reports his campaign is likely to end early.

Persistent pain from a previous match incident prompted further checks. An MRI at the Villa Mafalda clinic found a glenohumeral ligament lesion with involvement of the glenoid labrum, and arthroscopic stabilisation has been scheduled.

The timing is awkward for Maurizio Sarri’s side, who still face Atalanta in a Coppa Italia semi-final second leg and a demanding Serie A run-in.

Depth in goal is thin after Christos Mandas joined Bournemouth on loan with an obligation to buy in January, leaving limited cover behind Provedel.

His likely stand-in is 21-year-old Edoardo Motta, signed from Reggiana for €1.2 million earlier this year, a promising but still developing option. The other alternative is 24-year-old Alessio Furlanetto, an academy product yet to make a first-team appearance.

It leaves Lazio in a precarious position as they try to salvage something meaningful from an already frustrating campaign.
