Lazio youngster Reda Belahyane will reportedly return to Hellas Verona exactly a year after his departure.

The Background

The 21-year-old has a knack for mid-season transfers. He arrived in Italy in January 2024, when he made the move from OGC Nice to Verona. After establishing himself as a regular feature in Paolo Zanetti’s lineup, Lazio poached him for his services last winter. He sealed a deadline switch that reunited him with Marco Baroni.

With Maurizio Sarri returning to Formello, the Moroccan became an afterthought, especially after receiving an avoidable red card in the Derby della Capitale defeat to Roma in September. Since then, he was usurped by the reinstated Toma Basic and found himself at the very bottom of the midfield pecking order.

Hellas Verona & Lazio Agree Reda Belahyane Transfer

In recent weeks, it was revealed that Verona are interested in bringing Belahyane back to the club, with the player giving the green light. According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Gialloblu have now struck a deal with Lazio, who agreed to relinquish the player’s services. Alfredo Pedullà also confirmed that the Biancocelesti have given the green light for the transfer.

Belahyane’s Formula

The young player will return to his former employers on a six-month dry loan, so he could still have a future at Lazio, especially if Sarri parts ways with the club at the end of the season, which appears to be a likely scenario given his strained relationship with Claudio Lotito and the rest of the hierarchy.

Lazio’s Midfield Revamp

The Aquile have already signed Kenneth Taylor from Ajax after selling Matteo Guendouzi to Fenerbahce at the start of the transfer window, and they have also acquired the services of Polish teenager Adrian Przyborek, so it remains to be seen if Belahyane’s departure could open the door for a third new arrival in midfield.
