Lazio lose Motta for Derby della Capitale against Roma: Debutant in goal | OneFootball

Lazio are set to be without both of their first-choice goalkeepers for the Derby della Capitale against rivals Roma on Sunday as Edoardo Motta has recently been ruled out, which means that Maurizio Sarri will be forced to hand a Serie A debut to 24-year-old Alessio Furlanetto.

Lazio without Provedel or Motta for Roma derby

Regular no.1 Ivan Provedel has been unavailable for the last nine rounds of Serie A fixtures after having season-ending surgery on his shoulder, and former back-up goalkeeper Christos Mandas joined Premier League side AFC Bournemouth on loan with an option to buy in January.

Motta has been deputising for Provedel over the last few weeks, the 21-year-old having joined from Serie C side Reggiana in January, but according to the latest updates, he has suffered a muscular injury and will now be unavailable this weekend.

It is particularly unfortunate timing for the Biancocelesti, as their next fixture falls against archrivals Roma in a game that could be decisive in the race for the Serie A top four.

With two goalkeepers unavailable, Lazio are set to hand a Serie A debut to 24-year-old Furlanetto, the next goalkeeper in Lazio’s line of succession.

Furlanetto has been on Lazio’s books for the last decade, joining the youth set-up as a teenager in 2016 but is yet to make a competitive appearance in the senior side. His only previous experiences in the senior leagues came while on loan in Serie C with Renate in 2022-23 and with Fermana in 2023-24.
