Lazio have reportedly opened a dialogue with Gennaro Gattuso, who is unattached after leaving the Italian national team.
After Saturday’s final-day win over Pisa, Maurizio Sarri admitted that his days at Formello are numbered. In the coming hours, the head coach will hold talks with Lazio president Claudio Lotito, as the two men seek a contract resolution to end their tumultuous working relationship. The Tuscan manager’s next destination will, in all likelihood, be Atalanta.
Over the past few days, Lazio have launched a managerial casting, as they look to find Sarri’s replacement. According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the Aquile made contact with Gattuso, a profile long admired by Lotito. Further talks could take place in the coming days.
As the source explains, the AC Milan legend’s favorite destination had been Torino, who might decide to part ways with their caretaker, Roberto D’Aversa. However, the Granata haven’t been able to reach an agreement with Gattuso on the salary allocated to his technical staff. The 48-year-old also received an offer from newly-promoted Turkish top club, Amedspor, but he’s unlikely to accept it.
Pedulla reveals that, in addition to Gattuso, Lazio have two other Italian managers on the shortlist. The first is Raffaele Palladino, who will be relieved from his duties at Atalanta to make way for Sarri, and the second is Fabio Pisacane, who led Cagliari towards safety in his first coaching experience on the senior level.
