Lazio have stepped up their centre-back hunt, with La Lazio Siamo Noi saying they have made an offer for Slavia Prague defender Stepan Chaloupek, now being assessed by Sparta Prague.
The 23-year-old has also drawn interest from Ipswich Town, Hull City and Benfica.
Despite signing Danilho Doekhi on a free last month, they still want at least one more to join the Dutchman and Oliver Provstgaard. Alessio Romagnoli could follow Mario Gila out, while Patric and Samuel Gigot remain fitness doubts.
Lazio have already missed out on Sergi Dominguez and Noah Markmann. Standard Liege’s Ibe Hautekiet has emerged as the leading option, with Ajax’s Josip Sutalo considered an alternative.
Chaloupek left hometown club Mezibori for Teplice at 12, breaking into the senior squad in 2022. He joined Czech champions Slavia Prague two years later for a fee of one million.
After a breakout season, Transfermarkt now values him at 10 million. He made 42 appearances across all competitions last term, delivering nine goals and five assists, and impressed in the league and Champions League.
He was in the Czech Republic’s World Cup squad earlier this summer. He started the 1-2 defeat to South Korea on the opening day, then was left out against South Africa and Mexico. The Czechs exited the group stage with a single goal.
