Il Messaggero reports that Lazio have rejected Bournemouth's proposal to swap Alex Jimenez for Christos Mandas.
The Greek goalkeeper spent the second half of the season on loan at the Vitality Stadium but did not feature, with Andoni Iraola sticking with first-choice Djordje Petrovic.
Bournemouth hold a €17.5 million option to buy the 24-year-old until 15 June, though they are unlikely to trigger it for a back-up goalkeeper.
Seeking a cheaper route, the Cherries explored a player exchange involving former AC Milan full-back Jimenez.
Gennaro Gattuso intends to install Mandas as first choice next season, with Ivan Provedel set to make way.
The experienced Italian is close to joining Inter Milan after agreeing personal terms with the Serie A champions, while Edoardo Motta is expected to stay as Mandas’ understudy.
Jimenez, 21, is suspended by Bournemouth after an alleged inappropriate conversation with a minor on social media emerged last month, and his situation remains unresolved.
