Lazio continue to follow Bologna midfielder Giovanni Fabbian with great interest, but his future remains within Inter Milan’s grasp.
Following his return to Formello, Maurizio Sarri has requested the signing of a new player to complete the midfield trident alongside Nicolo Rovella and Matteo Guendouzi. Therefore, Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani is searching the market for a new box-to-box midfielder who can add quality and dynamism to the side.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Fabbian is one of the top names on Lazio’s shortlist. The Italian capital club had already tried to acquire the 22-year-old in January, but Bologna refused to let him go as his teammate Lewis Ferguson had suffered a muscle injury.
Nevertheless, the Roman newspaper insists Lazio never lost sight of the Italy U21 international, and they could attempt a new onslaught in the coming weeks. Nevertheless, Inter still controls the fate of their former youngster thanks to a buy-back option they can exercise in July. The source expects the player’s future to be decided when he returns from the U21 European Championship.
Fabbian started his career at Padova before being poached by Inter in 2018. However, the midfielder never had the opportunity to showcase his skills with the Nerazzurri’s first team. Following a highly impressive loan stint at Reggina in Serie B, the young player was sold to Bologna in the summer of 2023 for circa €5.5 million, signing a contract valid until June 2028.
