Lazio have reportedly resumed their attempt to recruit  Santi Gimenez, who is set to leave AC Milan after 18 difficult months.

Lazio Planning to Buy a Striker this Summer

The Biancocelesti continue to scan the market for a new striker who can improve their attacking stats, especially following last season’s shortcomings (41 goals in 38 Serie A fixtures). While several names are being thrown as potential targets, Gimenez is considered Gennaro Gattuso’s ‘dream’ signing.

Lazio Reopen Talks with Santiago Gimenez

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio have made new contacts with the Mexican’s entourage, even though a deal remains difficult. As the transfer market expert explains, the Italian capital side is aiming for an initial loan with an option to buy at the end of the season, whereas Milan prefer to add an obligation clause.

Gimenez Has Been Enduring Tough Times at Milan

Gimenez is a Cruz Azul youth product who has been on Lazio’s watchlist since his memorable stint at Feyenoord, but he ended up sealing a €30 million transfer to Milan in January 2025. Sadly for the 25-year-old, his performances at San Siro have fallen short off the mark, only registering seven goals and six assists in his 37 appearances for the club.

Moreover, the Rossoneri have recently bought Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain, which may have rendered Gimenez surplus to requirements. However, it remains to be seen if Lazio and Milan can reach an agreement on the formula, and whether the player would be willing to join the Aquile, who are bracing themselves for what could be another challenging campaign.
