Lazio ‘to book’ medical for free agent Leite after Romagnoli departure | OneFootball

According to Football Italia, Lazio are closing in on free agent Diogo Leite after Alessio Romagnoli joined Al-Sadd in the Qatar Stars League, with a Sunday medical scheduled.

Romagnoli, 31, had been linked with the Qatari club since January and departed late on Thursday after four seasons at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Serie A window closed earlier this week, but clubs can still sign unattached players, and Lazio are expected to add a central defender on a free to cover Romagnoli’s exit.

Leite, 27, left Union Berlin at the end of his contract this summer. The former Porto academy centre-back made 136 appearances for the German club, 113 in the Bundesliga, and has top-flight Portuguese experience with Porto and Braga, the latter on loan in 2021-22.

Lazio are expecting him to sign a three-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico. If he does sign, he would reunite with former Union Berlin centre-back partner Danilho Doekhi, who also arrived on a free earlier this summer.
