Lazio want a permanent exit for Nuno Tavares and have told Porto their opening loan proposal must improve.

According to The Laziali, Porto offered an initial loan worth no more than €two million with an option to buy, but Lazio prefer a structure that guarantees a sale.

Tavares’s future has been in question since early summer after the arrival of Alfonso Pedraza, who appears to have secured the starting left-back role under Gennaro Gattuso. The 26-year-old has also been dealing with another muscle issue that kept him out for most of pre-season.

There also appears to be tension with the club hierarchy or staff, and in recent days he deleted Lazio references from his Instagram account, hinting at a possible exit.

He is said to feel his Lazio chapter is over and is open to returning to Portugal. Porto are keen, with head coach Francesco Farioli an admirer.

Tavares is under contract until June 2029 and is the club’s third-highest earner, behind Alessio Romagnoli and Mattia Zaccagni, on a net €two and a half million a year. Arsenal would receive 35% of any transfer fee in the event of a sale.
