According to LaLazioSiamoNoi, Lazio have reversed course and are ready to let Toma Basic leave for free when his contract expires on June 30, despite earlier indications of a renewal to 2030.

The midfielder is among several players with deals running down at the Stadio Olimpico, with the club tightening budgets and looking to reduce the wage bill. That points to several being allowed to depart when the season ends.

Basic had been the likeliest to extend, with repeated suggestions of an agreement through June 2030 worth €2.5m a year.

An injury in February saw him drop out of the squad and stall the momentum he had built under Maurizio Sarri.

Signed from Girondins de Bordeaux in 2021 for €7.1m, the 29-year-old has made 17 competitive appearances this season, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.
