Lazio have refocused on Andrea Pinamonti after their move for free agent Bamba Dieng fell through when the Senegalese forward failed his medical because of a recurring knee issue.

Calciomercato.com reports that talks with Sassuolo have been reopened for Pinamonti, who produced nine goals and three assists in 36 Serie A appearances last season.

Long tracked by Lazio, the Italy international is back at the top of Gennaro Gattuso’s shortlist. The shape of a deal has shifted, with Lazio preferring a loan with an option to buy, while Sassuolo want an obligation included.

Pinamonti has indicated he is open to a move to Rome, leaving the two clubs to agree the financial structure.

Hull City have also shown interest this summer. An opening offer in the region of €10m was rejected, with Sassuolo holding out for closer to €15m for the former Inter and Genoa striker.

With Lazio’s striker search already stalling once this window, completing this deal now carries added urgency for Gattuso’s side.
