Lazio have rekindled their pursuit of Bologna midfielder Giovanni Fabbian and could make a renewed push in January. Sky Sport reports that the Biancocelesti plan to step up efforts next week.

Fabbian is said to be wanted across the hierarchy, with head coach Maurizio Sarri, sporting director Angelo Fabiani and president Claudio Lotito all keen. The clubs are understood to have a good working relationship, and Serie A rules exempt fees for Italian players under the age of 23 from supervisory cost reports, which could encourage a deal.

The 22-year-old started at Padova before joining Inter’s academy. He impressed on loan at Reggina in 2022/23, then earned a move to Bologna last summer.

This season he has made 16 appearances in all competitions, most as a substitute, with Vincenzo Italiano preferring Jens Odgaard in the No.10 role. The Italy U21 midfielder might be open to a new chapter.

Strengthening midfield is Lazio’s main January priority and Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been identified as Sarri’s preferred profile. A deal with AC Milan could be difficult this month, so Fabiani is monitoring alternatives, including Fabbian and Atalanta’s Lazar Samardzic.
