Lazio are weighing a move for Elche midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza as they seek a right-footed replacement following Matteo Guendouzi’s sale and the arrival of left-footer Kenneth Taylor.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports that the 20-year-old is on Lazio’s shortlist, describing him as a box-to-box option who can operate higher up. He has two goals and one assist in 17 appearances this season.

Lazio had lined up Alex Toth and reached an agreement with his camp, but could not strike terms with Ferencvaros. Gianluca Di Marzio reports the Hungarian club are close to selling him to Bournemouth. Attempts to land Quinten Timber have also stalled, with the player holding out for the Premier League.

Il Corriere dello Sport adds that Mendoza’s Elche contract runs to June 2028 and contains a €20 million release clause. Lazio are said to be aiming for a fee around €15 million.

The same outlet notes he has risen quickly, catching the eye of Cesc Fabregas, who tried to take him to Como last summer. It also says Mendoza shares an agent with Alfonso Pedraza, who has a pre-contract to join Lazio next summer when his Villarreal deal expires. That relationship could give the Biancocelesti an advantage.
