Lazio Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

Even the most optimistic of Lazio fans — scarce as they are — surely didn’t envision such a perfect start to the Serie A campaign, especially after the embarrassing Coppa Italia elimination against Mantova. And yet, Gennaro Gattuso’s men currently sit third in the table, with only Roma and Inter Milan ahead of them due to a superior goal difference.

The Biancocelesti began their league campaign by beating Bologna on the road, then edged past Genoa at home, with Davide Frattesi’s goal being the solitary difference on both occasions. The Roman midfielder then kickstarted the comeback against Udinese on Monday by scoring the equaliser, before fellow newcomer Albert Gudmundsson scored the winner to make it three wins in three.

AC Milan Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

Ruben Amorim began his reign at San Siro with back-to-back victories. On the opening day of the season, Milan earned an away win over Torino by two goals to one, and then beat Venezia by two unanswered goals in their first home fixture.

Last weekend, the Rossoneri were minutes away from registering another win in Turin thanks to their new wonderkid Alphadjo Cisse, but the home crowd at the Allianz Stadium breathed a sigh of relief in the 92nd minute, with Federico Gatti rescuing a draw for Juventus and consequently ending Milan’s perfect start. The Diavolo are now fifth in the Serie A table with seven points.

Lazio vs AC Milan: Match Insights

  • Lazio had the upper hand last season: The two teams met three times last term, and they all ended 1-0. Milan won the league fixture at San Siro, but five days later, Mattia Zaccagni avenged the Biancocelesti in the Coppa Italia. Gustav Isaksen’s winner separated the two sides in the Serie A return fixture.
  • Lazio’s unbeaten home run against Milan: The Aquile haven’t lost in any of their last three meetings with the Diavolo in Rome, winning twice and registering a draw.
  • Gattuso eyeing a historic start: Lazio are aiming to win their first four league fixtures of the campaign for the third time in the club’s history. Only the legendary Tommaso Maestrelli (1974/75) and Vladimir Petkovic (2012/13) had achieved this feat.

Expected Starting Lineups

Lazio (4-3-3): Mandas; Floriani Mussolini, Doekhi, Provstgaard, Tavares; Frattesi, Belahyane, Taylor; Isaksen, Pinamonti, Zaccagni

Milan (3-4-2-1): Maignan; Gila, De Winter, Pavlovic; Chukwueze, Jashari, Musah, Estupinan; Rabiot, Cisse; Ramos.

Prediction: Lazio 1-1 Milan

Despite winning their first three matches of the season, Lazio’s attacking stats haven’t drastically improved compared to last season. They have only netted four goals in as many competitive fixtures, but they’re certainly showing a grander desire to push forward and force the action in the final third.

The good news for the Biancocelesti is that they remain largely solid at the back despite taking more risks. If we compare the two teams ‘pound-for-pound’, Milan certainly have the advantage, but they haven’t truly flourished under Amorim, so a draw in front of a modest crowd at the Olimpico could be a satisfactory result for both sides.
