Lazio reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals after ousting Bologna and will host Atalanta on Wednesday, seeking a first crown in seven years.

According to The Laziali, the competition carries extra weight. Lazio have seven past triumphs and, this season, it is their only route to Europe as they sit 10th, 11 points off the top 6.

The other semi-final pits Como against Inter on Tuesday. With all three rivals above them in the table, the Aquile are seen as underdogs after a flat February.

2023/24, Juventus vs Lazio. Juventus won 2-0 in Turin with second-half goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa. In Rome, Luis Alberto set up Taty Castellanos twice to level the tie before Arkadiusz Milik struck late to send Juventus through.

2018/19, Lazio vs AC Milan. A goalless first leg in Rome preceded Joaquin Correa’s winner at San Siro, which booked Lazio’s place in the final that they later won against Atalanta.

2017/18, AC Milan vs Lazio. Both legs finished goalless after 90 minutes in Milan and 120 in Rome, and Alessio Romagnoli converted the decisive penalty for the Rossoneri.

Lazio have often thrived as outsiders in this competition and have now thrown their focus behind it. An improved display can be expected after recent hollow showings.
