Roma received some good news today, because Enzo Le Fee helped Sunderland earn promotion to the Premier League, which means his €23m sale must be completed.

The midfielder had been purchased from Stade Rennes in July 2024 for €23m, but failed to make an impact at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 25-year-old had originally been requested by coach Daniele De Rossi, but his dismissal in September saw him fall rapidly down the pecking order.

Le Fee never made his mark at Roma

He was pushed out of the squad in the January transfer window, having made only 10 appearances between Serie A, the Europa League and Coppa Italia.

Le Fee has flourished in the Championship, which is the English equivalent of Serie B, scoring one goal with three assists in 18 appearances for Sunderland, including today’s Championship Play-Off Final victory against Sheffield United.

It means Sunderland will be in the Premier League next season and crucially that activates the automatic obligation for the club to buy Le Fee outright from Roma.

The Giallorossi make back the money they spent a year ago, as the obligation is worth €23m.
