Manchester United’s transfer business has been relatively quiet since their early acquisition of Matheus Cunha.

The window did briefly close last week before reopening for the summer on Monday, with several of the Reds’ Premier League rivals now hard at work in bolstering their squads for 2025/2026.

For example, Liverpool have already signed off on deals for Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and are in talks with Milos Kerkez, while Manchester City, who first face United at the Etihad on September 13, have welcomed Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli.

United keen to wash their hands of Jadon Sancho

Fans knew heading into the summer that outgoings would be essential for Ruben Amorim to see his options adequately bolstered. As things stand, the club are no closer to sanctioning any sales — but there is interest in a handful of players.

More recently, Napoli have emerged as surprise contenders in pursuit of outcast forward Jadon Sancho after Chelsea opted against activating his £25 million obligation-to-buy and instead forked out a £5m penalty to send him back to Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano claims the newly-crowned Serie A champions have indeed set their sights on Sancho, although he would need to take a pay cut to make the move come to fruition, with his current £300,000-a-week wages proving far too dear for Napoli to match.

Napoli in the mix for two Reds this summer

Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have tried their luck in aiding the winger to revived form — much akin to what we witnessed throughout his first stint at the Signal Iduna Park. However, he has fallen short of the mark during both loan spells.

Sancho is tied to United until 2026, meaning this summer poses as the most suitable time to offload him.

Napoli, now home to fan-favourite and Carrington graduate Scott McTominay, had previously been credited with interest in Alejandro Garnacho, and even went as far as having a £45m bid rejected in the winter. However, it seems as though they’ve now prioritised a deal for the more senior but cheaper option, with United said to be demanding upwards of £70m for the 20-year-old this summer.
