How it went

The early exchanges were a nervy affair for the hosts with Chelsea dominating much of the early play. Despite Chelsea’s dominance there were few real chances for either side until Bunny Shaw was through on goal before her effort was scrambled clear by the Chelsea backline. The hosts were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area after Shaw was fouled just yards outside the box. In the end it was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 41st minute as Wieke Kaptein found the back of the net.

City started the second half much more brightly, forcing their rivals into several careless mistakes in the early exchanges. From there, however, the visitors grew back into the game, dominating the play. Despite several good chances, City were unable to find a route back into the tie. Chelsea will face Manchester United in the League Cup Final, which will take place on Sunday 15th March.
