Ipswich Town have agreed a fee with Everton for the signing of striker Nathan Broadhead, a report from The East Anglian Daily Times has revealed.

Having come through the youth ranks at Everton, Broadhead spent last season on loan at Sunderland, helping them win promotion back to the Championship from League One.

The striker then joined Wigan Athletic on another loan deal in the summer transfer window, and went on to score five goals in 22 games for the Latics in the Championship.

However, it was announced earlier this week that Everton had recalled Broadhead from that spell at The DW Stadium, amid reports Ipswich have made a £1million bid for the striker.

Now it seems as though the Tractor Boys, who themselves are currently second in League One, are making progress in their pursuit of the 24-year-old.

According to this latest update, Ipswich have now agreed a seven-figure fee with Everton for the signing of Broadhead, who has 18 months remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

However, it has recently been reported that Broadhead himself favours a return to Sunderland this month, meaning he now has a decision to make over his future.

This feels like a big breakthrough for Ipswich in the January transfer window.

It seems as though some extra firepower in front of goal is a priority for the Tractor Boys in the market, and Broadhead can certainly provide that for them, judging by his impact for Sunderland last season.

Indeed, his experience in winning promotion at that level with the Black Cats, should certainly be useful for Kieran McKenna’s side as they look to secure a return to the Championship in the next few months.

With that in mind, you feel the pressure is now on Ipswich to make a strong pitch to Broadhead to convince him a move to Portman Road is the right one for him, in order to get this potential coup over the line.
