Saverio Sticchi Damiani, President of Lecce, expressed deep satisfaction and pride regarding the transfer of left-back Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United, highlighting it as the perfect example of the club’s development model.
In an exclusive and extensive interview with Tuttomercatoweb, Damiani recounted his eight years as President and was asked to identify the market operation that made him most proud. While he praised the signing of World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti as extraordinary, he singled out the Dorgu transfer as a complete validation of the club’s strategy.
“Umtiti was an extraordinary operation, a world champion who gave a lot to our club, but that of Dorgu represents the Lecce model 360°,” Damiani explained.
He detailed Dorgu’s trajectory: “Taken from the youth sector of a Danish team, he spent a year in the Primavera and half a season in Serie A, and then was sold to Manchester United for 38 million.”
Damiani concluded by emphasizing the significance of the transaction, stating, “It is a symbol of the quality of our club. And doing business with Manchester United is an additional source of pride.”
The transfer, which was completed in the January window, serves as a proud benchmark for Lecce in their talent identification and development approach. The left-back hasn’t had a great season at Manchester United but he is still at the right age to get better.
