Leeds United opened their second Premier League campaign with a last gasp 1-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest, settled by Anton Stach's brilliant 88th minute free-kick. Leeds United writer Lee Sobot delivers the player ratings from the City Ground.
Harry Wilson thought he had struck midway through the first half, turning in Jayden Bogle's cross, but the flag went up for offside. Ola Aina was shown only a yellow for a bad challenge on James Justin, and Forest then hit the frame of the goal from a corner late in the half.
Both sides had chances after the interval, yet it seemed destined to finish goalless until Stach fired in that late free-kick to clinch it for Daniel Farke's Whites.
James Trafford, eight, made a big first half save and was hugely commanding, rock solid between the posts. Another clean sheet showed exactly why Leeds bought him, the standout performer and close to a nine.
Jayden Bogle, seven, was very bright going forward, though Forest enjoyed some joy down his flank. James Justin, six, fought a real duel with Aina, starting well before problems arose, and Aina could, and probably should, have been sent off. Joe Rodon, eight, excelled defensively with important tackles and interceptions. Tarik Muharemovic, eight, complemented strong defending with neat turns and passes, and was close with a second half header. Jaka Bijol, eight, produced a commanding, assured display at centre back, possibly the best of the bunch, though the whole unit did the business.
