Leeds 4-1 Newcastle: Calvert-Lewin and Okafor strike as Whites run riot at Elland Road | OneFootball

Leeds United produced their best performance of the season to beat Newcastle United 4-1 at Elland Road and remain unbeaten through their opening four Premier League matches.

A Lewis Miley own goal put Daniel Farke’s side ahead before Leeds wing-back Jayden Bogle and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it 3-0 before half-time. Leeds forward Noah Okafor added a fourth after the break, while Newcastle attacker Bazoumana Touré scored a late consolation.

Leeds started on the front foot and Newcastle goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček was forced into an early save when Bogle turned inside the area and shot low towards the corner. The hosts continued to find space down both flanks, with Newcastle struggling to build any sustained pressure.

The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute. Leeds midfielder Ao Tanaka exchanged passes with Okafor on the left before shooting from outside the area. The ball took two deflections, the last off Newcastle midfielder Miley, and wrong-footed Horníček on its way into the net.

Leeds doubled their lead less than three minutes later. James Justin crossed from the right and Calvert-Lewin attacked the delivery with a powerful header, which clipped Bogle before beating Horníček. The goal was eventually credited to Bogle, with Calvert-Lewin awarded the assist.

Calvert-Lewin got his own goal in first-half stoppage time. Leeds defender Tarik Muharemović helped Bogle’s cross-field pass into his path, and the striker reacted quickly before cutting inside Sven Botman and finishing into the bottom-right corner.

Newcastle made changes early in the second half, but Leeds continued to carry the greater threat. Anton Stach went close before Okafor made it 4-0 in the 59th minute, meeting the dropping ball first time after Botman headed Ethan Ampadu’s long throw into his path.

The visitors had a penalty appeal checked by VAR after Harvey Barnes went down under pressure from Muharemović, but the on-field decision stood. Leeds remained compact and limited Newcastle to few clear openings as the second half progressed.

Newcastle finally scored in the 90th minute. Valentino Livramento’s cross deflected into the path of Touré, who adjusted quickly and stabbed the ball beyond James Trafford. It did little to change the outcome, with Leeds closing out a convincing 4-1 victory.
