Leeds United and Nottingham Forest face the Premier League opener with four players ruled out across both squads, while three return.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds winger Willy Gnonto misses out after a hamstring injury against Manchester United, with Daniel Farke hoping he is back in team training soon. Left back Gabi Gudmundsson sustained a muscular issue versus Liverpool in the United States, was initially viewed as around four weeks out, and has been confirmed out of this weekend. Farke added the Swede could be doubtful for Leeds’ first two league games.

Forest captain Ryan Yates, absent from the final friendly against Brest, will also miss the visit of Leeds. Defender Nicolo Savona, who had knee surgery in March, has suffered a minor setback, is working in the gym and on his knee, and is expected to need a couple of weeks. Both are unavailable for the opener.

Chris Wood, given time off after New Zealand’s World Cup and then sidelined by a minor muscle problem, returned to start the Brest friendly. Omari Hutchinson was back on the bench for the same game and featured as a second half substitute. In total, three players are back.

The match at the City Ground on Saturday is Oliver Glasner’s first competitive fixture in charge of Forest and Leeds’ first test of the new campaign.
