Leeds United have formally begun work to enhance Elland Road, with the West Stand project under way. The club said in a statement that the milestone marks a momentous step for the stadium’s future.
Early activity includes demolition of the old ticket office and LUTV studio, partial removal of the banqueting suite and the removal of floodlights behind the stand. A temporary structure for corporate hospitality is being installed behind the Kop.
The new West Stand will be built over the existing structure as the first phase towards UEFA Category 4 status. Executives from the club, the Leeds United Foundation and Leeds City Council, plus ambassadors Stuart Dallas, Tony Dorigo and Eddie Gray, attended to mark the start.
Increasing capacity is a central aim, with a 32,000 season ticket waiting list underscoring demand. The redevelopment is also intended to support bids to host major international tournaments and showcase events for the Leeds City Region.
Plans outline improved seating, comfort and sightlines in the West Stand, enhanced concourses and new fan amenity spaces in and around the ground. The scheme also targets a more inclusive and accessible environment and world-class hospitality facilities.
The upgraded Elland Road is envisaged as a platform to help attract top talent by providing a stage suited to elite-level football. Regular updates on construction will be provided throughout the project.
