Leeds United lost ground in the survival battle after a 1-0 home defeat by Sunderland was followed by damaging results elsewhere.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, a six-point buffer over the bottom three was cut to three on Wednesday.
Daniel Farke’s side missed a chance to set the tone on Tuesday, beaten by Habib Diarra’s penalty. The hosts bristled at Sunderland’s game management and an underwhelming refereeing display.
West Ham then won 1-0 at in-form Fulham, lifted by former Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville’s seventh goal in 10 games after a Bernd Leno error. A Fulham penalty was overturned by VAR, with Harry Wilson absent.
Nottingham Forest twice trailed at title contenders Manchester City but drew 2-2 at the Etihad, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson cancelling out strikes from Antoine Semenyo and Rodri, the equaliser arriving on 76 minutes. Soon before that leveller, Matz Sels collided with Erling Haaland and VAR did not intervene.
Leeds are now three points ahead of West Ham in 18th, with Forest also three back, both currently behind the Whites on goal difference.
Attention turns to Tottenham, a point above both and two behind Leeds in 15th. Igor Tudor’s side host Crystal Palace tonight and could leapfrog the Whites with victory.
