Leeds United will face Norwich City at Elland Road in the FA Cup fifth round, a reunion for Daniel Farke. The Whites secured their place after edging Birmingham City on penalties, and the tie offers a major opening to reach the quarter-finals.

The draw, held on Monday evening before Macclesfield hosted Brentford, paired ball no 16 Leeds with the Championship side. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Farke twice led Norwich to promotion as Championship winners.

At St Andrew’s, Birmingham dominated the first half but it was goalless at the break. Lukas Nmecha put Leeds ahead on 49 minutes, then Patrick Roberts levelled on 89 to force extra time and a shootout.

Leeds were flawless from the spot, Joel Piroe, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Brenden Aaronson and Sean Longstaff all converting for a 4-2 shootout win. Birmingham missed twice, one effort superbly saved by Lucas Perri.

Norwich, now managed by former Rangers boss Philippe Clement, are 17th in the Championship, seven points above the relegation zone. They beat Walsall 5-1 in round three and West Brom 3-1 in round four.

Clement’s side have won seven of their last eight in league and cup, their only setback a 1-0 defeat at leaders Middlesbrough. Over the last eight league games they are second in the form table on 18 points, behind Boro on goal difference.

With home advantage, Leeds will be seen as strong favourites to advance. Fifth-round ties are scheduled around Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.
