Leeds lived every twist as England survived a major scare to beat DR Congo 2-1 at the World Cup.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, a decade on from the humiliating Euros exit to Iceland, Brian Cipenga’s early strike threatened a repeat in the round of 32.

Thomas Tuchel’s side laboured for long spells and ran into an inspired Lionel Mpasi, but they kept their cool and Harry Kane’s second-half double completed the turnaround.

The result sets up a clash with co-hosts Mexico in the early hours of Monday morning.

Sam Matthews said: “It’s a good job we have Harry Kane, otherwise we’d be in the plane home!”

Janet Stockton said: “Can’t take anything away from DR Congo they played really well. England finally got there in the end, phew.”

Lyndsey Rowson added: “Great fight, they never gave up - get in lads.”

The scenes were captured at the Beck and Call pub in Meanwood, with the best pictures from a nail-biting night to follow.
