Leeds’ survival push gained another lift after Friday’s defeat of Nottingham Forest, as emerging rivals Tottenham suffered a triple setback at Old Trafford.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the picture has improved again for Daniel Farke’s side.
Friday’s 3-1 win left Leeds nine points clear of third-bottom West Ham and three ahead of Forest, level with Tottenham and Crystal Palace, albeit having played a game more.
In their game in hand at Manchester United, Thomas Frank’s side suffered the first blow when, with the score goalless, captain Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Casemiro, leaving him facing a four-match ban after his second dismissal of the season.
Nine minutes later it worsened, as Bryan Mbeumo finished a neat routine from a Bruno Fernandes corner after a Kobbie Mainoo lay-off, his strike setting up a 2-0 victory.
After the break, already stretched by injuries, Spurs lost Destiny Udogie, then United added a second in the 81st minute when Bruno Fernandes converted Diogo Dalot’s cross.
Tottenham’s defeat leaves them level on points with Leeds with the same number of games played, ahead only on goal difference, underlining their status as an emerging rival in the fight to stay up.
