According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds United are closing in on Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford in a deal worth £40m plus add-ons, with personal terms largely agreed and only final details to resolve.
If completed, the move would become a club-record signing for Leeds, surpassing the £35.5m paid for Georginio Rutter in January 2023.
The proposed fee would also reinforce Trafford’s status as England’s most expensive goalkeeper, a mark he already holds after a £31m switch to City a year ago.
Such outlay underlines Leeds’ ambition, and the fee would rank Trafford among the most expensive goalkeepers ever.
The transfer remains contingent on the outstanding elements being signed off, but discussions are understood to be at an advanced stage.
