Leeds United have opened direct talks to sign RB Leipzig forward Conrad Harder as they step up their late-window search for a striker.
Tipsbladet reports that Leipzig remain reluctant to sanction the 21-year-old Denmark international’s exit despite Premier League and Serie A interest.
Lazio have lodged an official proposal for an initial loan with an option to buy, while Galatasaray also retain strong interest.
Harder joined Leipzig a year ago from Sporting CP in a €30million (£26million) deal. He has four goals and four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.
He underlined his value days ago, scoring off the bench in a 6-0 German Cup win over Eintracht Trier. After that, managing director of sport Marcel Schafer publicly rejected suggestions the forward is available and stressed his importance.
Leeds are in the market after selling Joel Piroe and Joe Gelhardt to West Ham United and Hull City, respectively. Daniel Farke’s side have tracked Liam Delap and Ayase Ueda, and hope Red Bull links could help them conclude a deal before the deadline.
