Leeds United welcome Brentford to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites have won both of their competitive fixtures in the Premier League and League Cup.

There is plenty of optimism around the club, but Brentford will provide a much sterner examination.

Leeds could hardly have asked for a better start to life back in the Premier League.

Anton Stach’s late free-kick secured three points for Leeds at Nottingham Forest before Daniel James and an own goal helped them overcome the same opponents in midweek.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke has also been able to introduce several of his summer additions.

James Trafford, Tarik Muharemovic and Jaka Bijol are among those already making an impression.

Leeds now finally get to play in front of their own supporters. Elland Road has not hosted a Premier League fixture since May, and the atmosphere should be electric.

Brentford will arrive in a very confident mood.

Keith Andrews’ side dismantled Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 on the opening weekend before producing an even more emphatic 6-1 victory over Birmingham City in the League Cup.

This could be a fascinating battle between two physical teams. Leeds won the most duels on the opening weekend with 66, while Brentford were second with 62.

The sides are also closely matched in recent form. Since December, Leeds have collected 39 Premier League points compared to Brentford’s 37.

Leeds have only lost once in their last six competitive games.

The Whites also collected 24 points at Elland Road from the start of December onwards, with only three teams earning more on home soil during that period.

However, Brentford have won both matches this season and are unbeaten in their last four against Leeds, although they have only won once in that sequence.

The Bees also posted an xG of 3.96 against Tottenham, their highest in a Premier League game since January 2025.

Ilia Gruev has returned to team training and is in contention to feature, while Willy Gnonto and Gabriel Gudmundsson have also returned to the training pitch.

However, Sunday’s game could come too soon for the latter duo.

There is little reason for Farke to change a side that has won its opening two competitive fixtures.

Harry Wilson has also made an impressive start and will be particularly keen to face Brentford.

The Leeds winger has scored seven goals against the Bees in 12 outings in all competitions.
