According to Sky Sports, West Ham, Leeds United’s relegation rivals, are expected to add Chelsea defender Axel Disasi on loan before the deadline, having beaten AC Milan and Fiorentina, with the 27-year-old preferring to stay in the Premier League and in London.

The move would reinforce a defence that has conceded 48 goals.

West Ham led 2-0 at Chelsea on Saturday but lost 3-2, and centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off for violent conduct. He now faces a three-match ban.

Disasi joined Chelsea from Monaco in a £38m deal in 2023 but has struggled for minutes, spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after being moved into his parent club’s so-called Bomb Squad.

He has since returned to team training under Liam Rosenior but has not featured this season.

If the deal is completed today, Disasi is likely to be in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad for Saturday’s trip to Burnley. He would compete with Max Kilman and Dinos Mavropanos, with Todibo due back after three games.

West Ham are also exploring a goalkeeper loan. They have spent almost £50m on forwards Pablo Felipe, Taty Castellanos and Adama Traore, while Lucas Paqueta left for Flamengo in a £38.5m deal last week alongside departures for Nicklas Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez, James Ward-Prowse and Luis Guilherme.
