Leeds United said in a statement that selling Pascal Struijk to Brighton and Hove Albion helped keep the club within financial limits on the final Profitability and Sustainability Rules deadline day.

The centre-back has joined for an undisclosed fee and the deal includes a future sell-on clause. Struijk was in the final year of his contract, was offered an improved deal, but wanted a new challenge.

Leeds kept key players last summer to prioritise survival, with the expectation that sales would follow this window to meet a three-year accounting period ending 30 June 2026. Their 14th-place finish and FA Cup semi-final increased income. A new Squad Cost Ratio system now applies to Premier League clubs.

Struijk arrived from Ajax as an 18-year-old in 2018, initially for the Under-21s as a free signing. He broke through under Marcelo Bielsa in the 2019/20 promotion campaign and established himself in the top flight. He leaves with 196 appearances, 14 goals and two Championship titles.

Leeds highlighted his community work and influence in the dressing room. Under Daniel Farke he was part of the leadership group and later vice-captain, wearing the armband on occasions. The club thanked him and wished his family well.
