Leeds United are expected to confirm free agent Harry Wilson as their first summer signing, despite a brief delay. Daniel Farke’s side are also pushing to add further quality, having held talks with free agent Julian Brandt and seen bids of more than £20m for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles rejected.

The Athletic reports Everton have added former Leeds loanee Djed Spence to their right-back shortlist, with Seamus Coleman departing and Nathan Patterson attracting interest. Sky Sports says Ipswich Town are close to signing Toulouse striker Emersonn in a €31m (£26.6m) deal including add-ons, with medical tests planned and Hull City missing out. BBC Sport adds that 34-year-old Callum Wilson is in advanced talks to join Brentford on an initial 12-month contract.

Spence’s 2023 loan at Elland Road was cut short in January after seven appearances, before a revival back at Tottenham. He recently featured in England’s 3-2 World Cup last-16 win over Mexico at the Azteca, and is now on Everton’s radar. Arsenal defender and former Leeds loanee Ben White is also liked on Merseyside.

Emersonn scored six and assisted two in 27 Ligue 1 games last season, playing alongside Charlie Cresswell at Toulouse. Ipswich and Hull, both newly promoted, are aiming to emulate Leeds by avoiding instant relegation.

Wilson left relegated West Ham when his contract expired, scoring seven in 32 Premier League games last season, and would compete with Igor Thiago at Brentford. Former Leeds loanee Jaidon Anthony is also due to join the Bees after a £20m agreement with Burnley. Brentford are scheduled to visit Elland Road on Saturday 29 August.
