Leeds United will honour club legend Mick Jones at Elland Road on Saturday night, with a half-time presentation during the Premier League meeting with Brentford. He will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award and become the first former player to be given a Leeds United Heritage Cap.
The club said in a statement that Jones would be welcomed onto the pitch with his family and that supporters were encouraged to remain in their seats at the interval to pay tribute.
Part of Don Revie’s side, Jones scored the winner in the 1968 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final, the club’s first major European honour. He helped deliver league titles in 1968/69 and 1973/74, finishing as Leeds’ top scorer in both.
His honours also include the 1969 Charity Shield, a second Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1971 and the 1972 FA Cup, for which he set up Allan Clarke’s decisive goal.
Between 1967 and 1975 he made 312 appearances for Leeds and scored 111 goals, and he won three caps for England.
The Heritage Cap forms part of Marching on Forever, the former players’ association launched in late 2025 to recognise past contributions.
