Leeds United 0-0 Crystal Palace: VAR denies Mitchell as sides share points at Elland Road | OneFootball

Leeds United and Crystal Palace played out a 0-0 draw at Elland Road as Daniel Farke’s side extended their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Crystal Palace wing-back Tyrick Mitchell had a second-half goal ruled out for offside after a VAR review, while Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied at close range by Palace goalkeeper Walter Benítez. The result moved Leeds up to fifth, while Palace collected their first clean sheet of the league campaign.

Leeds carried the greater attacking threat during a tight first half. Leeds United defender Tarik Muharemović headed wide from an early corner, while midfielder Ao Tanaka fired over following one of Ethan Ampadu’s long throws.

Palace created openings of their own, with Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton testing Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford from distance before forward Daichi Kamada forced another low save after being released into the area.

Leeds continued to push before the break. Tanaka sliced a volley wide after Benítez punched away a Noah Okafor cross, while defender Nico Elvedi saw a hooked effort held at the near post as the teams went into half-time goalless.

Palace made the stronger start to the second half. Trafford tipped Crystal Palace winger Yeremy Pino’s free-kick around the post before Kamada sent a low effort narrowly wide.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead in the 52nd minute. Anan Khalaili crossed towards Jørgen Strand Larsen and, after Jayden Bogle’s intervention sent the ball loose, Mitchell tapped in from close range. VAR intervened, however, with Khalaili shown to have been fractionally offside in the build-up.

Leeds responded and created their clearest chance four minutes later. James Justin delivered from the right and Calvert-Lewin met the cross first time, but Benítez produced a point-blank save to keep the scores level.

Palace continued to threaten late on, with Wharton dragging a deflected effort wide and Kamada heading narrowly past the far post. Former Leeds striker Eddie Nketiah was also denied a clear opening by Justin’s intervention as neither side found a winner.
