Wrexham and Southampton must look to sign Leeds United's Lukas Nmecha, who will be a free agent in the summer of 2027 as it stands.

Leeds United continue to make progress under Daniel Farke, as they look to establish themselves back in the top flight.

A productive summer transfer window means the Whites should be able to avoid looking over their shoulder this season, with James Trafford, Tarik Muharemovic and Harry Wilson all strengthening the squad.

Leeds’ owners have shown they are willing to seriously invest to take the club forward, and that will continue in the upcoming windows.

Therefore, players will leave Elland Road, and one individual facing an uncertain future is Lukas Nmecha.

The forward joined Leeds from Wolfsburg, and he played a big part in helping the Yorkshire outfit survive last season, scoring six goals in 31 Premier League games.

Even though he was by no means a regular, Nmecha’s game time has been reduced this season, as he has been mainly restricted to brief cameos from the bench.

With his deal expiring in the summer of 2027, it seems likely the German will move on, and he could be a very attractive option for clubs on a free transfer, and here we outline TWO Championship clubs that should be tracking Nmecha…

Wrexham

Wrexham made a reported move to sign Nmecha in the summer, but a deal couldn’t be agreed prior to the deadline.

But, that shows the ex-Anderlecht man was on their radar previously, so it would make sense that they would pursue Nmecha when he would be available on a free transfer.

Plus, Phil Parkinson’s side are still lacking quality, and Nmecha would be the perfect addition in terms of what he could bring to the team.

He has good pedigree, having come through the ranks at Man City, and he has scored goals in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg, as well as winning seven caps for his country.

So, to get a player like that, who will be 28 when his deal expires, on a free is a no-brainer for Wrexham, and it would be a statement signing for the club if they remain in the Championship.

Southampton

Southampton are another club that will be hoping to win promotion this season, but Nmecha could be a valuable asset no matter which division the club is in.

Tonda Eckert has shown he has an ability to improve players, so you would back him to get the most out of his compatriot, who has all the tools to cause opponents problems.

As well as that, Nmecha’s versatility would make him a useful option for Saints, as he could play instead of Cyle Larin, or alongside him, and he can also do a job out wide.

The south coast side have some quality players in the final third, but they lack depth, so bringing in someone like Nmecha would make a lot of sense.

We don’t know what sort of budget Southampton will be working with, and it will obviously change if they get promoted, but, either way, picking up a free transfer like Nmecha would be shrewd, and he could become an important figure at St. Mary’s Stadium.
