Leeds United have agreed a permanent deal to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi for a fee worth up to €10 million, according to The Athletic.
With his contract in Germany due to expire at the end of the forthcoming season, Leeds have moved to secure the centre-back before the new Premier League campaign. Daniel Farke is preparing for a second top-flight season after promotion in 2025.
Elvedi joined Monchengladbach from FC Zurich in 2015 and has made 364 appearances in all competitions, including 36 last term.
He featured for Switzerland at the World Cup in North America this summer. Leeds are seeking to finalise the move.
Sebastiaan Bornauw’s future at Elland Road is increasingly uncertain, and he could join Hamburg, either on loan or permanently.
Elvedi previously worked under Farke at Monchengladbach, and the pair could reunite if the deal is completed before one September.
Leeds have also added Harry Wilson, James Trafford and Tarik Muharemovic this summer. Whether Elvedi becomes the fourth arrival of the window remains to be seen.
Farke’s side start at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest on August 22, then host Brentford on August 30.
