Leeds United have begun immediate works at Elland Road, with a new drone video revealing the first visible changes to the stadium.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, planning permission granted earlier this year paves the way to lift capacity to around 53,000. The club intend to build a new West Stand first, then move to the North Stand to modernise the ground and meet demand.
Work started almost as soon as the final home match finished, with journalists asked to vacate the media room under the West Stand by seven pm so crews could begin.
The video shows the removal of the Portakabins that served as away-team dressing rooms at Elland Road. Supplied by York firm Britcab before the first season back in the top flight under Marcelo Bielsa to comply with Covid safety measures, they had remained in place. The cabins were returned to Britcab’s lab last week.
Further changes include the partial demolition of the ticket office and the building that hosted some LUTV operations. The floodlights have been taken down, and crests removed from the banqueting suite at the rear of the West Stand.
A temporary structure behind the North Stand, expected to house corporate facilities during construction, was already being erected before the season ended.
