Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has signed a new four-year contract, keeping him at Elland Road until 2030, the club said in a statement.
The 25-year-old Wales international joined from Chelsea in July 2023 for around £7m and later took the armband, becoming the first signing of the club’s new ownership.
In his debut campaign he played every league game under Daniel Farke and was named Player of the Year. The following summer he was made captain and led a 100-point campaign to the Championship title, lifting the trophy after the final-day win at Plymouth Argyle.
On United’s top-flight return last term he made 35 appearances in midfield and scored once in the 4-1 home victory over Crystal Palace. He finished the 2025/26 season with the Players’ Player of the Year award and a second Player of the Year.
He passed 100 Leeds appearances during that campaign and now stands on 126 outings with three goals. Off the pitch he has been a regular presence for the Leeds United Foundation.
Ampadu continues to feature prominently for Wales, regularly captaining the side and winning his 62nd cap in last Tuesday’s friendly against Ghana. His previous deal ran until summer 2027 with an option for a further year.
