Leeds United have confirmed the permanent departure of attacker Joe Gelhardt to Hull City, ending his six-year stay at Elland Road.
The 24-year-old has signed a four-year contract with a 12-month option after an 18-month loan with the Tigers, during which he scored 15 goals last season as they won promotion via the play-offs. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the package is worth up to £eight million if add-ons are met, around double what Leeds were exploring when considering a sale last summer.
Gelhardt signed a four-year deal in 2020 and debuted in the EFL Cup Third Round against then tier-below Fulham. In December 2021 he scored his first Leeds goal away at Chelsea, then netted his first at Elland Road late on against Norwich City.
He joined Sunderland on loan in January 2023, making 18 appearances. After a season back with Leeds, he moved to Hull on loan again, scoring five times in 20 outings.
The forward later enjoyed his most prolific campaign at the MKM Stadium. Leeds hailed him as an exemplary professional and an immensely popular figure, and said he will always be welcome at Elland Road.
