Leeds United have confirmed goalkeeper Karl Darlow has left following the expiry of his contract despite being offered new terms, with the 35-year-old joining Manchester United.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the offer did not include a guarantee of the number one role and Darlow will provide back-up to the first-choice keeper at Old Trafford.
Darlow linked up with Daniel Farke’s squad before 2023/24, debuting in a League Cup win over Shrewsbury Town. He then impressed in the final seven Championship games as Leeds sealed the title at Plymouth Argyle.
In that campaign he made his Wales debut and now has 15 caps. Back in the Premier League he featured 22 times, collecting April’s Save of the Month for a point-blank stop from Wolves’ Ladislav Krejci.
The club praised his professionalism and community work. He departs with 38 appearances, having played a significant part in the 2024/25 Championship success and in retaining Premier League status last season.
Leeds always planned to recruit another goalkeeper. With Illan Meslier now at Arsenal and Darlow gone, Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns are Farke’s options for the moment, amid links to Torino for Perri and interest in James Trafford and Zion Suzuki.
