Leeds United are targeting World Cup centre-back Tarik Muharemovic after Pascal Struijk’s £20m move to Brighton. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands United have interest in the Sassuolo defender, but nothing beyond that for now.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Leeds had entered the race for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international. He added that Bournemouth and Sunderland have enquired in recent weeks, and that the player’s former club Juventus must decide due to a 50 per cent sell-on clause.

Muharemovic, 23 and six-foot-four, featured at this summer’s World Cup. He played the full 1-1 group opener against Canada, then started against Switzerland, where he was sent off for denying a goalscoring chance with 10 minutes left. Suspended for the Qatar finale, he returned for a 2-0 round-of-32 defeat to the USA.

Leeds are also interested in 22-year-old Southampton midfielder Shea Charles. The Mail claimed positive talks took place over the weekend and suggested a decision was close.

There is currently no update on a deal for Charles, and discussions remain ongoing.
