Flemming’s representatives have been working the phones, contacting clubs across the Premier League as the 27-year-old Dutchman hunts for a top-flight move.

Following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship, his exit from Turf Moor seems like a matter of when, not if. Flemming originally moved from Millwall to Burnley in August 2024 on an initial loan before signing permanently for a reported £7 million after their promotion. Even in a side that scraped together just 21 points all season, he managed to bag ten goals in 27 Premier League games, a tally that has attracted attention far beyond Yorkshire.

Former Coventry assistant manager Mick Brown told Football Insider that Frank Lampard wants players with proven top-flight pedigree, and Flemming fits the bill. While Leeds have tracked him all season, Everton, Ipswich Town, and even clubs in Serie A have been sounded out by his agents.

However, Flemming’s heart is set on staying in the Premier League. Brown mentioned that while Flemming isn’t the top name on the shortlist at Elland Road, he is definitely in the conversation. Flemming himself told Dutch outlet Voetbal International that his taste of the Premier League has left him wanting more, and he plans to stay in England’s top tier for the long haul.

“Flemming could be a good option for Coventry. They know they have to strengthen their squad if they want to compete in the Premier League, so they have to look at players who are proven at this level. Flemming has shown this season that he can perform in the top flight; he’s got ten goals for Burnley, even though they’ve been relegated.

I think a new striker is something Coventry are looking into, because they’re not convinced their current players are going to cut it in the Premier League. Obviously, they’re not going to be the only people looking at Flemming, but that’s the market they have to be shopping in this summer. If they can sign the best players from relegated Premier League teams, that will already put them in a good position to stay up.”

Would signing Flemming actually move the needle for Leeds United’s 2026/27 ambitions?

To be honest, this move probably needs a bit more thought than the headlines are giving it. Flemming’s best traits, dropping deep to link play and his physical presence, are almost a carbon copy of Joel Piroe’s style. Leeds have made it clear they want a striker who is a definite step up from Piroe, rather than just a similar alternative.

On paper, his away form is great, and his xG (expected goals) numbers are through the roof, showing he has the knack for finding the right spots at the right time. But Zian Flemming’s home record, only two goals at Turf Moor all season, is a bit of a red flag. It makes you wonder how he’d handle the massive pressure and expectation that comes with playing at Elland Road.

Leeds United need forwards who can deliver in front of a demanding home crowd, so that stat shouldn’t be ignored. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin already hitting 13 goals this term, Leeds need a partner who offers something new, not a player they basically already have on the books. Flemming is a solid, proven choice, but for what Leeds United are trying to achieve, solid might not be quite enough.
