The summer transfer window opened this morning, freeing Leeds United to trade, though much of the heavy lifting may follow the World Cup. Four calls will define their summer.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, chairman Paraag Marathe expects fewer than last year’s 10 additions, prioritising higher quality. With a defensive base laid in 2025, attacking difference-makers top the list.

Pascal Struijk is into his final year. Leeds are not minded to weaken the squad, yet a left-footed, ball-playing centre-back signed free in 2018 could realise major profit. Selling would demand an equal or better replacement, expensive and uncertain, while a new deal would be hugely valuable.

Leeds missed out on Harry Wilson and still seek a right wing or No.10 profile like his, with the Welshman a free agent. A near-£40m bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen signalled the hunt for another striker and Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs proper competition.

The goalkeeper picture is unsettled. Illan Meslier has departed, Alex Cairns and Karl Darlow are out of contract and in talks, Darlow has interest elsewhere, and £16million 2025 signing Lucas Perri has disappointed. Decisions include securing Darlow and Cairns, a new No.1, whether to cut losses on Perri, and a fourth-choice option in Scotland youth international Rory Mahady.

Outgoings must be right. Marathe has said sales are coming, with fringe exits helping churn and strengthen Daniel Farke’s side. Joel Piroe, Willy Gnonto and loanee Joe Gelhardt could raise funds, though losing favourites like Gnonto or Ao Tanaka would sting as Squad Cost Rules tighten.
