The Leeds United Supporters’ Network has condemned what it calls unbalanced commentary over boos at Elland Road during a Ramadan pause in Saturday’s match against Manchester City.
Leeds Live reports that play stopped on 13 minutes so City’s Muslim players could break their fast, and some jeers continued despite a big-screen explanation.
Some fans reported alleged abuse, others said the noise reflected confusion and a reference to Gianluigi Donnarumma in the reverse fixture.
In November the Manchester City goalkeeper went down for treatment, enabling a touchline chat with Pep Guardiola. On Saturday both teams also gathered with coaches.
Daniel Farke said his gut feeling was that the jeers related to the Etihad incident and to general confusion.
LUSN issued a seven-point statement echoing that view and stressing support for equality, inclusion and respect. It said the public narrative was incomplete and partly inaccurate, and that clearer pre-match communication was needed.
The group rejected claims that all boos came from home fans and criticised Kick It Out’s statement that singled out Leeds supporters, questioning whether a representative attended.
It suggested a later kick-off could have been considered and asked whether non-Muslim players needed to assemble on the touchline. The group urged consultation with local supporter networks and a balanced approach.
LUSN said it remains committed to dialogue with clubs, governing bodies and equality organisations, and that football’s passion, diversity and debate should be protected responsibly for all.
