Leeds United fans could face prosecution over homophobic chanting after the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, the Metropolitan Police said. Officers made 14 arrests in and around the stadium.

A further 18 people were not detained but will be reported for consideration of prosecution, including 16 Leeds supporters identified for homophobic chanting.

The arrests were for offences including GBH and ABH, affray, assault on an emergency worker, common assault and tailgating.

Chelsea advanced thanks to Enzo Fernandez’s first-half strike, with the official attendance confirmed at 82,542.

The chant is classed as a homophobic slur and hate crime that has been prosecutable since January 2022, and from January 2023 the FA signalled its intention to pursue formal disciplinary action over its use.
