January could offer Leeds United room to act, and long-standing target Harry Wilson has hinted he might move. Leeds are understood to have funds within PSR and could raise more through sales, with Willy Gnonto mentioned.

Managing director Robbie Evans said Leeds had spent to the limit this season, and that pursuing extra deadline-day targets would have forced further departures from last season’s key group.

Leeds pushed for Wilson on deadline day but Fulham pulled the plug. Fulham are four clear of Leeds in 13th after a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest. He has eight goals and assists in 16 games this season.

"Yeah, not a lot really. I’m fully focused on playing. I play football because I love the game, and wherever I am, it’s got to be somewhere where I’m going to play. If we get to the World Cup, I want to be in the best shape. What’s going to put me in the best position is somewhere where I’m playing, getting the minutes, playing well," Wilson said. He told Sky Sports.

"Hopefully scoring and assisting, I’ve been able to do that the last couple of months. Whatever happens after that happens. This next contract has got to be right for me and my family. We’ll see what happens." Leeds would remain keen, but Fulham’s stance on selling to a rival means a January move is considered unlikely.
