Leeds United hand Jayden Lienou three-year contract before United States tour | OneFootball

Leeds United have handed 18-year-old Jayden Lienou a new three-year contract, with the left-back expected to travel to the United States with the senior squad for pre-season today.

The club said in a statement that the former Manchester City youngster has agreed terms to 2029 after an impressive debut year, making 26 Under-21 appearances including EFL Trophy and National League Cup outings.

Lienou joined last summer and was a mainstay for the Under-21s before Daniel Farke named him on the bench against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton at the end of the campaign, after an injury sidelined first-choice left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson.

He was later called up by Craig Bellamy for Wales’ post-season camp and friendlies with Ghana and Romania, drew praise from the head coach, and was an unused substitute against Ghana.

The teenager has trained with the first team from the outset of this summer’s pre-season.

Farke has previously underlined the need for more left-footed options, with Gudmundsson the only natural senior left-back. After Pascal Struijk’s departure, Leeds signed Tarik Muharemovic for £34m to play left-sided centre-back, and are expected to assess further left-back options this window.
